17 834

Continuing our detailed instructions on employment as a flight attendant at Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, special attention should be paid to preparing for Assessment Day. During difficult tests, you will have to undergo a psychometric assessment, a test of external parameters, an English test, and also show the level of your communication skills in all its glory.

We will describe in detail below how to prepare for the midterm and final interview at the best airline in the world. Despite the fact that not everyone’s dream of becoming a Cabin Crew has come true, we still found a couple of current Emirates flight attendants who will tell you in great detail how to get a job at Emirates airline.

BOOKS IN ENGLISH FOR Flight Attendants

The Great, Scary and Mighty Assessment Day at Emirates Airlines (Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways): How to prepare for the most important interview of your life?

So, you have passed the preliminary screening of the 2019 intake, and recruiters from Global Vision have called you back, or you have finally chosen a date for one of the Open Days. Now is the time to prepare for an interview with representatives of Emirates airline (Etihad or Qatar Airways). This means you will need to carefully:

  • work out your image (from clothes and shoes in a certain style to makeup and manicure of the right color);
  • double-check all points of your CV;
  • prepare possible answers to standard and tricky questions;
  • practice communicating casually in English (you can do this in front of a mirror, as well as in front of friends and family members);
  • recharge yourself in a good mood and be positive (you should simultaneously radiate warmth, self-confidence and friendliness).

The Assessment Day itself runs from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, i.e. during the whole day. Usually the first interview takes place in a huge conference hall of a hotel or business center, because from 100 to 200 girls and guys can come to it (and, as we mentioned above, there can be even one and a half thousand of them). Be mentally prepared for the fact that you will see dozens of identical girls. Many people share their experience that it is extremely funny and, at times, causes continuous hysterical laughter. Control yourself!

Along with the high competition of beauties around, be prepared to look good for 9 hours straight (don’t worry, during this time you will be given time for rest and coffee breaks). We recommend taking spare tights, hairspray, pen, notepad, powder, blush and, of course, the calling card of every female Emirates Airlines flight attendant - red lipstick.

Important note! Please remember that the entire selection process for Emirates Airlines, Etihad and Qatar Airways stewardess positions is conducted in English from start to finish. If you are still not confident in your English, you can check your level for free or practice answering questions for the open day and final interview in English. To train in English with a teacher, it doesn’t matter at all what country and city you are in, the main thing is to have a computer, an Internet connection and a great desire to get a job as a flight attendant in a five-star airline.

Appearance at an interview: proper makeup, manicure, hairstyle, clothes and RED LIPSTICK are indispensable helpers in passing an interview at Emirates!

Happy Etihad Airways employees in branded clothing with purple lipstick

As for clothing, before X-Day, an Emirates airline recruiter (Etihad/Qatar Airways) will send recommendations by email indicating clothing style, hairstyle and makeup. As a rule, this is a business style of clothing (white top - black bottom).

That is, wear a white ironed shirt (short sleeves are allowed), a dark skirt to or just above/below the knees, a jacket to match the bottom and black pumps with low heels - you can’t go wrong. To look better than your competitors, you can choose something of high quality and at a discount, and to receive a 30% discount on the fall-winter 2018 collection when purchasing, enter promo code 9539.

You should have a good quality bun on your hair (so that extra strands don’t stick out anywhere), makeup should be neat and discreet, with the exception of red lipstick on your lips.

Requirements for the appearance of future flight attendants and stewards in order to successfully pass an interview at Emirates Airlines, Etihad, Qatar Airways in 2019

What should a manicure look like during an interview at Emirates Airlines (Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways)?

Manicure, according to unspoken information from already working flight attendants, is better to do it in red or in French style; the size of the overgrown nail should be a couple of millimeters. There shouldn’t be any bright provocative long purple nails or the like. And if you have nail problems, instead of going for dinosaur-length acrylic nails, go for a neutral, colorless European manicure with neatly tucked cuticles.

What is the best way to dress for an interview at Emirates Airlines (Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways)?

Don't try to dress the way you like for Assessment Day at Emirates Airlines to stand out from the crowd. Of course, whether to experiment or not is your choice, but our goal is to successfully pass the interview.

According to the experience of Cabin Crew, who successfully passed the interview and are already working at Emirates, girls came to the interview in torn jeans from the latest collection, in bright pink extravagant suits and yellow jackets, in miniskirts and revealing dresses, in high heels with rhinestones, in Adidas sneakers and jogging leggings, with provocative makeup and a vulgar manicure with glitter, as well as with a washcloth instead of well-groomed hair on his head. Well, after the first screening they were immediately disqualified from participating in further selection.

Stages of candidate selection for Emirates Airlines (Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways) at Assessment Day 2019

Once all participants in the preliminary test have registered, submitted a resume with color photographs and filled out short questionnaires about themselves, for the first couple of hours airline representatives gather everyone in a conference room and show a fascinating presentation about the United Arab Emirates (information about each emirate) and about life in Dubai (about local rules, customs and Muslim clothing). The history of the company's development will also be told here.

While watching the video presentation, do not forget to make notes with important dates and key points in your notebook, especially if you are hearing this information for the first time. At the end of the presentation, the recruiters will definitely ask clarifying questions, thereby, based on your answers and the answers of your colleagues, they will begin to make a selection without anyone noticing.

1 July 2016, 21:53

At the height of the summer season, I decided to write a post about the life of “heavenly angels” - flight attendants. Their profession still remains one of the most romantic among girls. I’ll say right away that the post is about the life of girls who work for large international airlines, such as Emirates, Etihad, Qatar airways, etc.

I’ll start the post with how to become one of the flight attendants of these airlines. In principle, the prerequisites for obtaining this job are age from 21 years (in Aeroflot - from 18 years), knowledge of English (you need to speak fluently) and excellent health. And of course, don’t forget about friendliness and neatness...

If you decide that this is exactly what you want to do, then you will have to go through several stages interviews

Stage 1 – registration on the site.

First you need to register on the airline's website. Fill out a form in English, which includes almost all personal data, including arm length))) You also need 2 photographs of yourself, one of which will have a close-up of your face.

Stage 2 – the actual interview.

After some time (it could take a year!), if your application suits the employer, an email is sent with an invitation to an interview. Emirates, for example, conducts interviews in Moscow and St. Petersburg almost every 3 months. They carry it out in 3 stages:

I - Pre-selection day

A short interview where they ask why you decided to become a flight attendant, etc. And writing an essay in English on a free topic. For example, “The best day of my life.”

II – Screening day

Usually this part of the interview takes place in the form of a game, where 2 people observe your coordination, ability to find a way out of difficult situations, ability to get along with people, etc.

III – Individual interview.

Here questions are asked about why you wanted to become a flight attendant, as well as questions that show how stress-resistant you are and how capable you are of getting out of difficult situations.

After the interview, the results are sent to the head office, where your candidacy is considered for some time (six months/year). If the decision is positive, you must undergo a medical examination, collect documents, sign a work contract and apply for a visa. The airline provides a free ticket to the city where the airline is based (for example, Emirates in Dubai, Etihad in Abu Dhabi, etc.), where you are undergoing training.

Education.

Lasts on average 6 weeks, during which you take intermediate tests, and at the end an exam, after which you are given a certificate) Takes place in special training centers. This is what the Emirates and Etihad training centers look like.

Training consists of several stages. This is what Emirates issues to flight attendants undergoing training:

Style/makeup. Here they show what a flight attendant should look like, what makeup should be, etc. In Emirates, for example, red lipstick, black eyeliner, mascara, and foundation are a must.

Simulation training. Emergency water landings, firefighting, etc.

Providing first aid (cardiopulmonary resuscitation, childbirth, etc.).

Training in serving passengers in the cabin when serving food/drinks.

After this, a 6-month probationary period begins. At the end of which he enters into a 3-year contract with you. Next, the department creates a schedule for your flights (roster), which is posted on the website. Sometimes, you can exchange flights that you have for others).

There are 2 types of flights on which flight attendants work: turnaround and layover.

Turnaround are flights lasting on average from 1 to 5 hours. The plane flies to its destination, disembarks passengers, loads new ones and flies back. Flight attendants often don't even get off the plane.

Layover (relay) – business trips lasting from 24 to 72 hours depending on the country and flight duration. This is also one of the most pleasant bonuses in the job, as it is an opportunity to see the whole world literally. Flight attendants are paid for hotel accommodation with breakfast and are paid travel allowances in addition to their salaries. And you have from 24 to 72 hours to get to know the new city!

There is also a month during the year when you are on reserve, that is, if one of the flight attendants misses the flight or gets sick, you replace him. And sometimes you can only find out where to fly 4 hours before the flight, and it’s unclear: should you take warm clothes or a swimsuit with you?!

Some may feel that there is no career growth in this profession. In fact, this is not true at all) In the beginning, everyone works in economy class, but then, if you want, you can sign up for training to work in business class, etc. Of course, this requires positive recommendations from passengers and your colleagues, and you also need to wait your turn for training.

Each airline has its own specific designations for flight attendants based on rank, the duties they perform and the cabin in which they work. At Etihad, for example, the designations are as follows:

1) FA - flight attendant in economy class.

2) FN (flying nanny or flying nanny) - the duties include taking care of and looking after the children in all cabins, but still the service operates in economy class along with all FAs, in fact it is also an FA.

3) FJ - flight attendant in business class.

4) FC - flight attendant in first class.

5) CS (cabin senior) - senior flight attendant in economy class, responsible for everything that happens there and for the work of his FA on a large plane, and at the same time the chief flight attendant on a small plane - responsible for the work of everyone and everything.

6) CM (cabin manager) - chief flight attendant on a large aircraft. The CM practically does not perform service; he acts as a manager on board, who ensures that all standards are met and all cabins work smoothly.

7) FB (Food and Beverage Manager) - works exclusively in business class. She is a nutrition manager. Such a person must be well versed in wines, and in principle in all drinks, in the correct and beautiful presentation of dishes. These are mostly former managers in hotels, restaurants, some even ex-sommeliers. FB is responsible for the operation of FJ and for ensuring that guests have an unforgettable and delicious experience on board the aircraft.

8) IC (inflight chef) - chef. The chief flies only on planes with first class and works in tandem with FC. It is present exclusively on long flights and can even prepare you a fresh omelette for breakfast or fry a medium rare steak for lunch.

9) Butler - butler. Before taking up their duties, butlers undergo a rigorous selection process, three weeks of training in London at the School of Hospitality and Tourism, as well as practical training at the Savoy Hotel.

Also, in addition to a decent salary, a social package is provided)

The Emirates social package, for example, includes: free uniform and suitcase (+ free dry cleaning);

free accommodation in a hostel in Dubai (or you are allocated a certain amount for which you can rent housing yourself); health insurance; 1 free ticket per year to any destination where the airline flies; vacation 30 calendar days; discounts on flights for your relatives up to 90%, transport from the hotels where the layover takes place to the airport.

The post was written thanks to comments and photos on Instagram of our girls working in these airports)

How it all began...

Qatar Airways, Air Arabia Jordan, Etihad Airways, UIA

About a year ago, I had no idea that one day I would want to become a flight attendant. I received a second higher education and dreamed of scientific activity, BUT life, as always, is unpredictable!

Realizing that graduate school was not going to happen to me, I was terribly disappointed...BUT my world turned upside down in an instant! Last summer (2015) I was on a social network and accidentally saw the page of a girl I knew from university, curiosity got the better of me! I scrolled through her wall and was shocked! In one month – 6 countries! Yes, it was a lot for me, because I had never left Ukraine) After scrolling a little more, I saw that she was a flight attendant! But how?!! We studied at the same university and she is a flight attendant, but I haven’t completed my second education yet and my future work as a teacher only made me more depressed...

Without hesitation, I decided to write to her and find out the story of her becoming a flight attendant! Honestly, I was very afraid that she wouldn’t even want to communicate with me, but she turned out to be a very nice girl))

After the conversation, I just got excited about this idea! BUT I didn’t have a resume, and I also didn’t understand how to write them correctly for such a position. Fortunately, an acquaintance who studied at a German university helped and sent me his own as an example. It took me a very long time to compose it, it seemed like an eternity... Having written it, I began to actively search for international airlines, went to their websites, sent my resume... only after that it dawned on me that not all airlines hire Ukrainian women... the list of all kinds of companies was narrowed to a minimum (

So what did Google leave me with:

  • Qatar Airways
  • Etihad Airways
  • Emirates
  • Air Arabia
  • Air Arabia Jordan

It seems like there is plenty to choose from, but not everything is so easy and simple...

I set a goal for myself - to BECOME A STEWARDESS WITHIN 1 YEAR... or accept my fate and go to work at school... although I’m lying, I wouldn’t go there for any money...

I received my first invitation to OD (Open Day) from Qatar Airways.

On 10.24.16 I came to my first interview in my life. I was like a lost child) All the girls looked simply perfect: black suit, white shirt, hair pulled back, and red lipstick on their lips. Even though I was in a black skirt and a white shirt, I looked like some kind of waitress, and my lips were nude...

We were met by two recruiters: a Polish woman and a French woman. It all started with the fact that we took turns going to the recruiter and handing over our documents (yes, I managed to embarrass myself here too: instead of a copy of my international passport, I brought a copy of my Ukrainian passport, but I really didn’t give it back). I ended up with a nice Polish woman, the only question she asked me was: Do you have work experience? I didn’t have any experience, but I kind of figured out that I’m a head teacher at a university and constantly work in a team... She smiled and gave me a piece of paper and said that this is my number for tomorrow’s AD (Assessment Day). I was sooo glad to move on.

The second day of the interview began with an English test. In principle, the test was not difficult, everything was in test form, and all the tasks were already related to the work of a flight attendant. But there were also tasks that were difficult for me: calculating how much food should be given out in the economy and the like... But the main “star” of the test was the essay. The recruiters came up with the topic on the fly. I had: “Difficulties you have encountered in life.” Here, as I understand it, I failed. I couldn’t come up with something sensible, so I wrote something about university in two words: VODICHKA and DELUSION.

After that, we were shown a presentation and were eliminated based on the test results, of course, me too... But I learned from the girls what happened next! And so, first they took turns approaching the recruiter, reaching up to the 210 cm mark, they were asked one question to understand how you react to different types of questions. Questions like “What are you most afraid of in life”...After that, screening and group assignment. The recruiters divided the girls into two groups and gave each their own task. My friend had: Create a tour of Kyiv. After the presentation – screening. Those who remained went through the FI (Final Interview) one-on-one with the recruiter. After that, they waited for results for 2 months. Here's the interview process at Qatar Airways.

The next experience was an invitation to a Skype interview from Air Arabia Jordan.

This is a low-cost company, but I was ready for such a start. The first stage of the Skype interview was 10/13/15. A girl named Rasha called me on Skype and talked to me for half an hour: she asked me my height, weight, hobbies and work experience, we even managed to discuss a book I had recently read. In principle, I really liked this type of interview, you sit at home in a situation that is comfortable for you, you don’t worry about anything... But there was also a huge minus, because I didn’t see the girl Rasha, I only heard. And this is very alarming... And after that - silence...

On 02/17/16 they remembered me and invited me to take an English test online. Since I really raved about the job of a flight attendant, I agreed. I sat all day preparing, remembering grammar, covered myself with cheat sheets just in case... BUT something, as always, went wrong)) Rasha called me on Skype again and said that now I would take a test for IQ level and knowledge of mathematics. What IQ?!! What mathematics?! I can’t stand her since childhood... and I don’t even remember the multiplication table. And if I wasn’t worried before, then after hearing what I heard my knees began to shake... The questions were in test form, but she sent me one at a time. Honestly, it took me a very long time to solve the first 5 questions, at that time Rasha was discussing something in Arabic with her colleagues... in those seconds I thought that they were discussing something like: “What a fool she is” huh)... yes, I can’t take away my low self-esteem).

Here are some questions she sent me:

1. Which one of the five is least like the other four?
A. Bear B. Snake C. Cow D. Dog E. Tiger

5. Which one of the five makes the best comparison?
Milk is to glass as letter is to:
A. Stamp B. Pen C. Envelope D. Book E. Mail

8. Jack is taller than Peter, and Bill is shorter than Jack.
Which of the following statements would be most accurate?
(A) Bill is taller than Peter.
(B) Bill is shorter than Peter.
(C) Bill is as tall as Peter.
(D) It is impossible to tell whether Bill or Peter is taller.

10. Were you tired after the trip in the mountains?
A: We were tired and also wet from the rain.
B: Yes, I was very tired.
C: We were tired and hungry.
D: Yes, we were, but we were happy.
E: Yes, and we were happy to be to home.

Fortunately, a calculator helped me with the math... the first time it came in handy on a laptop

After calculating the results, they congratulated me on successfully passing the test and asked me to send some documents. And I thought that everything, I’m a big smart girl, I got through it, and was even ready to move to Jordan... and then I received a letter that I would have a final on 03/28/16... and again on Skype! That day I prepared a speech, sat waiting for the call and the funny thing is - THEY FORGOT TO CALL ME! They never sent a new date for the final, so somehow I wasn’t very upset))

The next step, and probably the most desired one, took place on 02/08/16 - passing AD in the airline of my dreams - Etihad Airways.

Yes, this uniform haunted me!) I saw myself exclusively in it! But everything is in order.

The beginning of the interview was no different from the previous ones: a few hours of queue to go up to the recruiter (by the way, there were 4 of them), give documents, answer a banal question about the job, show your hands (this was already a new thing) and reach the 210 cm mark. I I ended up with a Slovak woman, she spoke very quietly and quickly, I could barely understand her. And one recruiter was dressed in an Etihad uniform, I couldn’t stop admiring her))

After that, we were given 15 minutes to write a test in English. The test itself is easy, based mainly on understanding texts. The texts are related to aviation, so if you are not good at vocabulary, brush up. In one task you need to insert words from a table into the text. This text is about the airport in Abu Dhabi, terminal 2 (perhaps it is on the Internet, since I came across an incredibly similar one on Wikipedia about Dubai Airport).

Next up is Impromptu Speech. What is it. And so, you all leave the meeting room and go out into the corridor. Recruiters are seated around the perimeter of the room. And you go in one by one, approach one recruiter (by the way, you are not allowed to approach the one who accepted your documents), DO NOT SIT on the chair opposite him, as it is intended for your purse. You stand straight and beautiful, smiling, and they ask you only 1 question (they may ask you more, but it will relate to the first). I came across this one: “When was the last time you felt embarrassed?” Yes, the questions are very crazy and different. Here is a list of those that were asked most often:

1. What are you going to do this weekend?
2. What would you do if you became invisible?
3. How to cook your favorite dish?
4. What super power would you like to have?
5. If you win $1 million, what will you spend it on?
6. Which historical figure would you like to have dinner with?
7. If you had the chance to give a speech on a famous talk show, what would it be about?
8. What would you like to become if you had the opportunity to become famous?
9. Why do you think manners are important? If you had a child, when would you start teaching him manners?
10. What does a rich person mean to you?
11. The most embarrassing moment in your life?
12. Weirdest food you've ever eaten?

13. Favorite book? (Or the last one you read and what did you learn from it?)
14. What is the most difficult thing in life?
15. What is the most valuable thing in life?
16. If you became president, what law would you pass?
17. What angers you most? (What would be the subject of your protest actually?)
18. What should they have taught you at school, but weren’t?
19. What did the university give you? How will this help the cabin crew?
20. Who was the last person you tried to impress?
21. What type of jewelry do you associate yourself with?
22. Which celebrity would you like to meet on a flight?
23. Who did you forgive last time?

24. If possible, what athletic sport would I do?
25. Are pets only for children and single people?
26. Who is your favorite singer/band?
27. What would you change about your country?
28. Is there a lie for good?
29. Do you believe in faith?
30. What's behind the stars?
31. What are you most afraid of?
32. What is karma?
33. What quality would you like to have, but do not have?
34. What's the nicest compliment you've ever received?
35. What is life?
36. When was the last time you laughed and why?
37. How do you see yourself in the future?
38. What is your favorite restaurant?
39. Which are two things you are good at?

40. What will you do in 24 hours?
41. What is unique about you?
42. Why do teenagers smoke?
43. Which culture do you respect the most (after your own)?
44. Which famous (historical?) woman inspires/admires you?

BUT this is not the whole list! Therefore, my advice: ALWAYS ask those girls/boys who leave the hall about the question. Because that's exactly what I came across. And you can already come up with an answer in advance.

After that - elimination! Unfortunately, I also dropped out after this stage. But personally, I understood why: I got stuck on the English test, since I didn’t have much command of the basic aviation vocabulary, and I was simply confused with some words. What I noticed: that at this stage they mainly pay attention to the TEST. Based on the results of its writing, the screening was done.

But I’ll tell you briefly about the remaining stages. The next one is a group task. My friend and her group came across this: “Create a vacation for Mr. Smith and his family for 3 days.” After that - screening again. Those who remained undergo FI during that evening and the next day. The wait for results at Etihad is very fast.

My next, but not last attempt was 02.23.16 at UIA.

Me and the other applicants were scheduled for 11 am. I arrived on my own time earlier... As a result, we stood in a small room near the elevator for up to 12 hours. Yeah, UIA doesn’t shine with punctuality... So, they finally took us, took us to a small room (they don’t even have a dressing room), so with our things and spare shoes we looked like gypsies at the market... haha, just kidding)) but we had a good look not presentable. There were 2 recruiters, we were divided into 2 groups and given the task: for 1 minute, talk with your neighbor, and after that we must introduce each other (in Russian). The recruiter asked age, height, weight... And then, one girl (as it turned out later - a former flight attendant of another Ukrainian airline) was asked to leave the interview, since she was 28 years old, and according to them, she was already too old for this profession, the other was eliminated because she I’m a part-time student, and they don’t take students....as for me, they picked on my height, like I’m too small (163 cm), but I diligently proved that I could reach the mark - I was allowed to stay.

The next task was to come up with and tell in English an interesting fact that no one knows in 1 minute. This task perplexed me a little, it seemed that everything I knew had disappeared from my head, so I decided to tell a fact from the history of Ukraine (I can tell it at night, even in foreign language).

After this, we were given the last group task - to sell the recruiter some duty free product. Here, more than ever, we turned on our creativity and began to present our ideas. But as soon as we decided to tell our decision, one girl started first and.... TOLD EVERYTHING WE DISCUSSED and said: but my colleagues want to continue! WE DIDN'T EXPECT THIS STUFF! As a result, we got out one by one as best we could...

The group tasks ended at this stage, everyone was asked to leave, and I was asked to stay. And then it started... At first they told me to reach the top of the doorway, but they forbade me to rise on my toes (although in other places you can do this), I was just a little bit short... Then they brought an employee of their airline and leaned her back against us (naturally she would be taller: I was standing barefoot, and she was wearing boots!). Then they apologized and said that my height was not enough for the job. I was not surprised when my entire group was eliminated (they said learn English), but the girl who set everyone up was left behind! It was about this airline that I had negative impressions: they thought too much of themselves, despite the fact that VLEK (at their own expense - 2000 UAH), shoes and a handbag are also at their own expense, the salary is about 9 thousand UAH, and the contract is only for half a year!

This is purely my opinion, but, in principle, this is not a bad start to career growth. That’s why try yourself at UIA.

The list of my attempts does not end here)

YOU UNDERSTAND THAT I DID GET A JOB AS A STEWARDESS.

And which of the famous airlines, read in the next blog!

Good luck to everyone on the path to their dreams!

Your Yasya.

“See you,” with these words the mysterious stranger extended his dark hand to me, while smiling flirtatiously at me.
I was a little confused, but I extended my hand in response and muttered something incomprehensible under my breath. “I don’t even know his name,” I thought to myself.
"ABOUT! We’ve already met!” - Mom, who returned from the WC, said right on time.
We were standing at the bus station in Dubai and wondering which direction we should go next to get to the airport.
The foreigner spoke English with such an accent that I practically did not understand him. Who he was: Indian, Mexican or someone else, I could not understand during our short acquaintance. Back in Abu Dhabi, he sat on the same bus with us and looked at me and said something. Then he helped us put our heavy suitcase into the luggage compartment of the bus. And so, when we had already arrived in Dubai, he, too, was in no hurry to run about his business, but hung around us. Having waited for the right moment, that is, when my mother left, he came up to me. He asked something, I asked again, I didn’t understand, he repeated it again, and I didn’t understand again. In general, that’s what we talked about. In the UAE, it was as if English had completely turned off: that is, upon arrival at Dubai airport, the internal button called “English OFF” worked and it was as if I was left without a language, without a tool with which I could communicate with this world. At least this button responded very well to the speech of Indians, Pakistanis and other peoples who came to work in the UAE. And these are taxi drivers, salespeople in stores, waiters in cafes and restaurants. That is, the vast majority of the United Arab Emirates.
Thank God that when it came to landmarks in the area, I was still able to understand something from the slurred speech and get my bearings.
I asked my new friend how we could get from here to Dubai airport. “Take a taxi,” he answered me. Indeed, the most convenient, fast and comfortable form of transport in the UAE is a taxi. In any heat, whether it’s + 25 or + 50, the air conditioners are always working inside, the Arabs have wonderful roads - the cars are like airplanes flying, and not driving over bumps and speed bumps like we have in Russia. Yes, and taxi drivers, although black, a little scary for Russian girls, are all dressed in uniform (in white shirts and dark trousers, this immediately catches your eye after Moscow), with their own ID (that is, you can always find it), with a navigator (not they will get lost) and, of course, the meter, so they won’t tell you the amount taken from their heads, as our Russian taxi drivers, especially private owners, like to do.
Of course, life in the United Arab Emirates is significantly different from life in Moscow, it couldn’t be any other way, but a separate post needs to be written about this. Now I want to tell you what I did at the end of January in a foreign country and how it all ended.
Mom and I got into a taxi. And as soon as we turned the corner, a picture opened in front of me, which is present in almost every Hollywood film about love. I was sitting in the car, and he stood in the middle of the street, looking languidly at me and waving his hand goodbye. And here it usually happens like this: the heroine asks to stop the car, runs out of it, throws herself on her lover’s neck and says that she loves him madly and she won’t fly anywhere. I didn’t have this, of course, but this picture flashed through my head and even something pinched in my heart: “Maybe I should have at least left the email for the guy? Or maybe this is my destiny? But the car sped away, as did the thoughts that came to my head for a few minutes, or rather to my brain, and then just as quickly left it. “He said that I’ll see you again,” somewhere inside I justified myself. - So, see you. Let him turn everything upside down and find me.” Although I understood that such a course of action was simply impossible.
We safely passed customs, stocked up on various goods at Duty Free and boarded the plane. Our flight was delayed and we took off almost an hour later than the time indicated on the ticket. And all because our Russian tourists shopped their hearts out in Dubai (during the great sales!) and did not bother to check all their things in their luggage, but took them on board with them. Naturally, boarding was delayed; there were not enough luggage racks to accommodate Dolce jackets, Michael Kors bags, and warm Tom Ford sweaters. The poor flight attendants were all hiding in the back galley and no one even came out to help the passengers with their carry-on luggage. Only when the situation with things reached its climax, one of the flight attendants came out into the cabin with the words: “Pack your things quickly! Otherwise we’ll never fly away!” The service is, of course, excellent. But this is not Etihad or Emirates. One woman at the back of the salon started screaming that someone had put her things on her own shelf (I wonder if she also bought it along with the ticket?!). She demanded that they be removed from there immediately. The senior flight attendant came, a young girl who, most likely, had recently become a foreman. She could not calm this woman down, somehow come to an agreement with her, or explain that the shelves above the passenger seats were not fixed in specific places. And, if the shelves above your seat are free, then passengers sitting next to you can safely put their luggage there. And since this situation was a stalemate, there was no need to explain this, things were so obvious! But the woman did not subside, the entire plane had already turned their necks in her direction in order to hint to the brawler with her facial expression that it was time to calm down, the show was over, everyone wanted to go home to Moscow. As a result, the woman was transferred to the superior cabin (sorry, but I don’t know what this class of service is called in this airline, but there is more legroom) and she calmed down. The senior flight attendant greeted the passengers, welcoming them on board the plane, and wished everyone a pleasant flight. Then the captain of the ship muttered something in a half-asleep voice, getting confused about the time of arrival, thereby making all the passengers laugh, the flight attendants handed out flight sweets to everyone, and made sure that everyone had their seat belts fastened. And now we were taxiing to the runway, we already wanted the plane to take off from Arab soil, but no...for some reason we were not given permission to take off. And we stood for another half hour and waited for the command or our turn to take off. During this half hour I managed to take a nap and even dreamed something.
And as soon as we took off, I began to remember these three crazy days in the United Arab Emirates.
Where did it all start? Back when I was working at Aeroflot, there was once a flight attendant flying with us in the same crew, who joined us from Emirates. We served passengers, the flight was long and we had time to chat. I started asking her about her previous work, where she had flown, what countries she had visited—everything was interesting to me. Even then, and this was a year and a half ago, I thought to myself: “It would be great to work in a foreign company, fly around the globe, meet people of different nationalities! What an invaluable experience! Where can you buy this in Moscow? Where in the capital can you find such a job?” And this airline also provided its employees with free comfortable housing and transportation to their place of work - isn’t this something out of science fiction? Girls from different cities of Russia worked in our company; they came to the capital and were forced to look for housing themselves, pay for it themselves, and spend money on transport to the airport. And here is a real Arab fairy tale - come to our country, we will provide you with housing, and a beautiful uniform, and you will see the world (they have business trips all over Europe in the best hotels), and, most importantly, you will receive a decent salary. But of course, everyone is silent about the disadvantages, namely, that you will live in a foreign culture among a different mentality, that at night you will be woken up by songs from the mosque calling all Muslims to prayer, and, of course, 50-degree heat for almost six months .
I thought about this work then and forgot. She left Aeroflot and moved to live in St. Petersburg. She began working as a secretary and sometimes replacing teachers when they were sick. Every day I got up at 6 am, and sometimes earlier, drove to work in the cold, sat with spoiled children, somehow withstood their whims and the whims of their parents. I listened to the dissatisfaction of my superiors, looked from the schoolyard at the planes in the sky and remembered my flying career. I missed. I missed the irregular schedule, when you don’t have to get up early every morning and run to work, I missed sunny Dubai, which I visited probably 6 times during the year and a half of working at Aeroflot. My creative nature could not stand this five-day “prison” and six months later I returned back to Moscow. In the capital, I began to look for a new job, updated my resume, added another small work experience in St. Petersburg and began to wait for answers from employers. There were responses, but I was not satisfied either with the salary being too low, or the work itself was boring and uninteresting without any prospects for the future. Although I went to interviews, I didn’t want to work anywhere. Then the idea came to me to go as a volunteer to the Olympics in Sochi. But I was late with the application, it should have been sent back in March, and I only realized it in the summer. I started looking for a job in Sochi during the games, looked at various vacancies, even as a waitress and at the reception at a hotel. There was one fairly good vacancy - working with foreigners, sending applications to the base when cellular communications fail. It seems that the conditions were not bad: payment for travel back and forth, provision of housing and food during the work, and the work itself was not physically difficult and not dusty. Stand at the counter, smile at everyone and fill out your application correctly. But they promised a small salary, for a month of work only 20 thousand rubles. I came for an interview, it seemed like I went well, but there was no peace or any joy in my heart from this work. I sat down at home, weighed all the pros and cons and refused. I completely rejected Sochi as an option. Around the end of summer, on VKontakte, I came across the page of a flight attendant from the Arab airline Etihad Airways, she very actively wrote about her work on her wall, posted beautiful photographs in uniform and in different parts of the world: today she is walking near Louvre, and tomorrow she's in Sydney riding a small boat, taking pictures with the Sydney Opera House in the background. I wrote her a message in which I told her about myself, that I was also a former flight attendant and was now looking for a job. I started asking her questions about her company, how to get a job, how they work, where they fly, how long business trips last, etc. Then I came across the blog of another flight attendant from the same company. I began to correspond with her, then she offered to go on Skype and chat “live” there, where she would tell everything in detail. Around the same time, I found the blog of a flight attendant from Emirates. I read it, then other reviews about this company, and still decided to go to Etihad, it seemed to me that they have better conditions for flight attendants, and the salary is higher (one Etihad flight attendant wrote to me about this, as if secret).
I would like to say that from the moment I thought about trying to get an interview at Etihad until I submitted my application, almost six months passed. All this time I was in doubt whether I could work there, whether my English would be enough for this job, how I would live in a foreign country, and I was only able to overcome 150 other torments and fears within myself on December 25, 2013. It was on Christmas that I filled out an application on the company’s official website, attaching photos and my resume, and, naturally, praying that if it was from God, let them invite me for an interview. I filled it out and went to church for the Christmas service. I return home late in the evening, open the computer, go to my email, and there is already a response - an invitation to an interview. My joy knew no bounds! Like a Christmas gift or even a Christmas miracle! I was in 7th heaven with happiness. The letter indicated several dates and cities where the interview would take place. I had to choose for myself when and in which city it was most convenient for me to come. I would like to say that the company recruits flight attendants from all over the world, so interviews also take place in different cities, not only in Abu Dhabi. At first I wanted to go to Serbia, to Belgrade, since there were cheap plane tickets and there was no need for a visa for citizens of the Russian Federation (very convenient, big savings in money and time for obtaining it). But, having had a Skype call with her new friend, a flight attendant from Etihad, she changed her mind in favor of Abu Dhabi. Katya, that’s the girl’s name, invited me to come and stay with her during the interview. And she lived in an apartment that the company provided her. That is, I had the opportunity to look with my own eyes at the conditions in which the stewards live. The offer was tempting, but at the same time, other obstacles arose - obtaining a visa to the UAE and purchasing a ticket for a direct flight from Moscow to Abu Dhabi. The only company that had such flights was, of course, Etihad. But when I saw the ticket prices, my hair stood on end; for that kind of money I would fly Aeroflot round-trip to New York. What to do? Mom suggested going to a travel agency and taking some inexpensive 3-day tour to Abu Dhabi. That's what I did. But there they began to intimidate me that I, being young, and another traveler, would not be given a visa. “It’s better for you to go with your mother, then the chances of getting a visa are almost 100%,” this is what the agent at the travel agency suggested. I came home, talked to my mother, and after a couple of days, 2 of our passports were on their table, the hotel was booked, tickets for the charter flight were waiting for confirmation. God gave us a big gift: for 18,000 rubles, TWO OF us flew to a sunny country for 3 days, and this amount included a visa, a hotel with breakfast, insurance, and flights. Isn't it a miracle? We then told everyone how cheap we bought trips to the UAE, but no one believed us. And God did this especially for us, because He knew that our budget was small.
True, I had to fly to Dubai, and from there travel by plane to Abu Dhabi.
We arrived at the hotel, checked in and went to look for the nearest bank to exchange money. The banks turned out to be all closed, and we, in order not to sit in hotels, but to enjoy the warm sea air (and the bay was a 5-minute walk from us), went wherever we looked. Our eyes led us to the Abu Dhabi Mall, where we exchanged our currency and had time to go shopping. I would like to note that in Abu Dhabi, unlike Dubai, there were no sales. Some stores had no discounts at all. This surprised us. But I want to move on to the main thing - my interview.
As we agreed with Katya, she came to pick me up at the hotel so that we could go with her to her apartment and from there in the morning I had to go for an interview at the Etihad company. That's how it all happened. And the story continues in the next blog.

DETAILS ABOUT THE COURSE

Dear guests of our site! The training course for Arab airlines has been extended several times, now it includes 17 lessons and additional materials. Added the MOST CURRENT Emirates/ Etihad/ Qatar/ FlyDubai written test assignments, group interview assignments and personal questions. Everything changes, and so do our courses. Due to this, the cost of the course has been changed to 8000 rubles. As before, this course is more profitable than a personal one via Skype, since it includes a lot of materials for preparation, homework not for flight attendants (as other courses offer), but for interviewing at Arab airlines (interview questions, group assignments, essays and other written tasks directly from interviews). But the only negative is the lack of speaking practice that you get by communicating with a teacher on Skype.
Due to the emergence of new lessons, the course has been extended by 4 months, but you can complete it faster if you have free time and the appropriate level.
We would also like to point out that 2 important things have been added to the course: lists of checklists and anti-checklists of one of the Arab companies. Based on these checklists, airlines choose you. For example, if you didn’t smile when handing over your resume, you will be added to the anti-check list and not accepted! You received a phone call. You are late for the interview. There is also a checklist; all your positive qualities and actions are entered into it. The more ticks there are, the higher the chance of passing the selection. This way you can increase your chance of passing an interview up to 100%!

The course is strictly targeted!
  • For those who want save money. Indeed, in this case, the cost of one lesson is less than 500 rubles, and each lesson is extensive and large, sometimes replacing more than one hour of individual lessons with a teacher. You can take 20 lessons for 1,000 rubles, spend 20,000 and get the same amount of knowledge as in our course for 8,000 rubles. Or even a less necessary stock of knowledge. After all, other courses are taught using textbooks for flight attendants. You simply study the vocabulary of flight attendants and consider situations, and this is practically not needed during interviews with Arab companies. Only written tests may require flight attendant vocabulary. Teacher Elena knows this and does not teach unnecessary things. Only targeted preparation for the interview!

You can learn a language using tutorials, but at the same time have no discipline, do not send homework assignments to anyone for checking, and do not receive advice on your gaps and shortcomings. Or you can buy our course and study systematically, receiving qualified assistance from a teacher. If the teacher feels that you have problems with grammar, he will send you additional material!
